Stand at the crossroads and look;
ask for the ancient paths,
ask where the good way is, and walk in it,
and you will find rest for your souls.
~Jeremiah 6:16
"The logic of worldly success rests on a fallacy: the strange error that our perfection depends on the thoughts and opinions and applause of other men! A weird life it is, indeed, to be living always in somebody else's imagination, as if that were the only place in which one could at last become real!"
~Thomas Merton, The Seven Storey Mountain
Both of these quotes stopped me in my tracks today. Let them simmer.
At the end of the day though, my spine stiffens at what follows directly after God's searing words in Jeremiah 6:16...
But you said, ‘We will not walk in it.’May it not be so, Lord.
17 I appointed watchmen over you and said,
‘Listen to the sound of the trumpet!’
But you said, ‘We will not listen.’
